Time Machine

By Don Mittan/Robert M. DeBusk/Lee Young

I had a flash back the other day,
When I, pulled up next to a Chevrolet.
It had mud on the tires and rust on the door,
Took me back to that Chevelle that I had before...
I can, still see you there in the passenger seat,
Flashin' that pretty little smile at me.
Holdin' on tight cruisin' Wagon road,
Headed down to that spot we'd, always go...

And we would park it on a turn-row, turn up the radio,
Get a little close, in the glow, of the moonlight.
Burnin' hot and heavy, back-seat of my Chevy.
Couldn't get no better than forever, holdin' you tight.
Savin' every moment I had, just to spend 'em on you.
Ooooh, that was the thing to do.

Yeah we were, all kinds of crazy way back then,
But I'd still do it the same if I could do it again.
My Mama'd have a fit if she ever found out,
Half the stuff, this ol' boy could talk about...
But the best kinda trouble that I ever found,
Out on a back-country road, drivin' around,
Was a dark-haired girl with a love in her eyes,
That had a way of makin' us both, come alive...

It's been a little bit of time,
Since we made it out that way.
Baby lets you and I,
Take a little drive now what d'ya say?

And we could park it on a turn-row, turn up the radio,
Get a little close, in the glow, of the moonlight.
Burnin' hot and heavy, back-seat of my Chevy.
Couldn't get no better than forever, holdin' you tight.
Savin' every moment I have, just to spend 'em on you.
--Maybe someday you'll look back on this too.
And say, ooooh that was the thing to do.
